Claws of Brass is the second book in the Alchemy Empire series, exploring the Mercian Empire, an alternate universe full of steampunk devices and magic, where everyone is totally mad for theater. It’s Victorian meets Futuristic, with a dose of fantasy romance for good measure.

“You shouldn’t look at me like that,” he whispered, his eyes burning dark, sorrow carving lines around his mouth.
“I’m not.”
He shut his eyes again, clenching his jaw. “You don’t know how easy it is to read your face. Your eyes…” His fist struck the desk. “Dammit, why did you come here?”
My heart ached watching him fight whatever unseen anguish tormented him. “Tell me what’s wrong. Let me help.”
His gaze bore into me. “You can’t. I spent the last month traveling to every healer in Cymru, and none of them could do a thing. In fact, your being here makes it worse.”
“Dietrich Wolff, you tell me what’s going on right now. It involves me. I have a right to know.”

“I won’t go back. I’m not staying another night with that…that—” Her voice cracked. She swallowed, and her expression hardened. “I’d rather sleep in the costume shop.”
I nodded as if I understood—which I didn’t. “Maybe you can stay in our room tonight. I’m sure Thea won’t mind.”
“Thank you. But I’ll need more than one night. We’re done. It’s over.”
“You want to change roommates?”
It wasn’t impossible to do, but it was a little tricky. You had to get permission from the theater manager, Master Fenrey, and everyone involved in the roommate swap had to agree to it. And you could only do it three times for your entire apprenticeship. Master Fenrey said having to work through roommate conflicts was a good way to build character.
It was also apparently a good way to get hit by flying boots, but enough about me.

Really liked this book. I had a few flustrations in book 1 this book cleared them up. Liked the growth in Minx or Clara she faced her worst fears and won that was a big part of this book. I liked the way it all came together, the part Dietrich played in it. I liked Raymond more in this book, he was part of the story more and showed pretty good. The only thing I didn't like and really couldn't see a reason for was the f-word thrown in. I don't no why authors seem to think they need that to write a good book. They don't it's really just a distraction and really wreid. Thought about giving 4 stars just on that alone, but decided the book overall was 5 stars all the way.

Second parts are never good... Just read this one and think again!
Really, when you are reading this book, there are moments you feel like if you were watching a movie!
What I love about Minx is that she recognize she was a victim, but she decides that is not what she is, she never let those circumstances define her, and that is what makes a hero. How many Minx's are actually in our world? And how many of them have a real, true friend to help them in their darkest moments?
Based on its book 1 and this book 2, Claws of Brass, Alchemy Empire is turning out to be an incredibly neat series. It's that rarity - a totally original tale on magic set in really weird theater-dominated (as it ties into that magic) steampunk England.
As for Claws of Brass, it fully retains that wonderful originality and quirkiness while having its winderfully drawn lead mature in the face of lots of adversity and grow as a person and in terms of her power. Oh, and it's a fun and adventurous tale with romance too. Not an easy trick to pull of but Meredith Rose does it with class.
Strongly recommended.

What I liked/Didn’t Like My second book by this author and it was a great continuation of the series. Highly recommended for the Steampunk readers out there.
This is the second book in the series, following on from Chains of Silver, and the action continues after that book (so you need to have read it first). I won't go into detail about the book's plot - nothing worse than spoilers in a review! - but the challenges faced by Minx, Thea, Raymond and their friends keep the reader enthralled thanks to the author's awesome writing. And even the trauma that Minx, Delphine and others have to face is dealt with really well (especially as the author says she has no personal experience in this area).
I really loved this book. The continuing development of the characters through the great storyline and awesome writing really brings them to life, and paired with the brilliant story, it kept me so hooked I had to keep reading until I'd finished it all in one go - almost like Meredith Rose has Fabulamancy! I'd definitely recommend these books to anyone who likes mystery, theatre and steampunk books, even if (like me) you're technically a bit old for YA fiction! Can't wait for the next instalment to be released!

This continuation follows Minx as she deals with the aftermath of the Phoenix attacks from the previous novel. However, the aftermath is more than she could ever have predicted.
It turns out that Minx is an animancer. It means that she can use any kind of magic, including soul magic. Unfortunately she accidentally created a soul tie (which is a felony, punishable by death) on her Presul. It connected him to the man who raped and tortured Minx when she was younger.
I loved that Meredith was able to have Minx overcome her fears. However, it was not in the way most people would expect. (I won't give any spoilers about that). But Meredith was also able to expand on more of the background characters.
So much drama occurred in this novel, but I loved every minute of it. The only reason I docked a star was because I felt like sometimes the focus was on the love stories and that it detracted from the main focus of the book
Really loved the story line and characters. Fully recommend to all! Well written and had me hooked from 1 st book to 2 no.
